J26 Sinfonietta was founded by Deena Draycott in 2009, bringing together specially invited musicians to perform high quality music, predominantly from the Baroque and Classical periods, under the musical direction of John Watson.
The name comes from the fact that we rehearse in a location close to Junction 26 of the M1 and our musician base is similarly located!
We play throughout Derbyshire, putting on our own concerts and also as invited guests at selected events. To date we have performed works including: Mendelssohn's "Hebrides Overture", Mozart Symphonies No.26, 27, 38 ("Prague"), Beethoven's "Egmont Overture", Haydn's "Le Matin", "Clock" and "Farewell" Symphonies and Prokofiev's "Classical Symphony"
As well as performing full orchestral works, J26 likes to showcase the talents of soloists, not only from our own musicians but also from specially invited guests. Solo works have included Mozart's Bassoon Concerto, Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E Flat Major, Mozart's Piano Concerto No.21, Cimarosa's Concerto for Two Flutes in G Major and Beethoven's Romance in F for Violin.
